Brunel University
Brunel University London was established in 1966 and is based in Uxbridge, West London, UK. Our mission has always been to combine academic rigour with the practical, entrepreneurial and imaginative approach pioneered by our namesake Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Brunel is a dynamic institution with over 13,000 students and over 1,000 academic staff operating in a vibrant culture of research excellence. In recent years the University has invested over £400 million into a campus redevelopment programme and now possesses an impressive range of modern, state-of-the-art facilities. Our research is focused around Brunel’s three interdisciplinary research institutes. The Institute of Energy Futures, Institute of Environment, Health and Societies and Institute for Material and Manufacturing. The Institute of Energy Futures (IEF) brings together researchers from a range of disciplines to investigate and develop innovative energy efficient technologies and processes to address societal needs and greenhouse gas emissions targets whilst taking into consideration the influence of human behaviour. The research concentrates on end use energy demand reduction, energy generation from renewable energy sources and efficient electrical power distribution and utilisation. The Institute comprises four major themes. i) Advanced Engines and Biofuels, ii) Energy Efficient and Sustainable Technologies, iii) Smart Power Networks and iv) Resource Efficient Future Cities.
