Smart Grids provide an excellent topic for knowledge sharing, creativity and entrepreneurship.
"In Smart Gems I’m working in WP2 and I’ll stay in Cyprus Institute of Nicosia for a month. During my fist period in the Institute (on March-April), I met a very helpful, competent and dynamic team (Nicolas, Marina, Alaric and the “Energy team”), I improved the case studies template for Cyprus Institute (Novel Technology Lab case study- NTL) so I had the possibility to study a very interesting technology (Fresnel) applied to NTL. I worked also on the questionnaires for the evaluation of webinars. In this second period in Nicosia, l’ll have the possibility to follow conference and visit several facilities on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Institute. I’m following introductory training in Trnsys and I will give a seminar speaking about my activities here and other aspects related to my work and my background. I’ve also the possibility to meet the other Italian guys from Sicily…This second period in this very interesting and enigmatic country is just started … I'll keep you up-to-date". Daniela Isidori. Italy.
"In the SMART Gems project we are working on smart metering, monitoring and analysis of data of the zero energy buildings. Our main subject is to build a database, where all the measurements of the smart meters and other sensors in a zero energy building would be transferred and in that database a user would be able to see all the general information about the building structure as well as monitor his consumptions of the energies. All this should be done in user-friendly way, all the measurements should be able to be seen in graphs, diagrams with a tables and other useful information". Lukas Samulevičius, Lithuania.
"I worked mostly on address optimisation, control systems, and data analysis. Additionally, I am involved in a project related to energy and storage systems. My experience as a secondee was marvelous. From a working/professional point of view, I have got in touch with a different approach to energy efficiency that is given by bioclimatic design, which was new for me. Additionally, during my secondment I have the chance to work, spend some time, and to interact with great people that I strongly respect". Laura Standardi. Italy.
"My experience in AEA has given me an insight of highest level Research and Innovation in an industrial but also sustainable infrastructure. Having met and collaborated with people in the department of Research for Innovation (RfI) has been fantastic and I am hoping to be able to see them again all in one of my next secondments in Angeli di Rosora. Our work here focused on 3D energy modelling of Leaf community buildings and establishing a Demand Response framework based on advanced optimisation techniques with the aid of Neural Network and Genetic Algorithms models." Nikos Kampelis
"My experience at IDEA during my secondment gave me the opportunity to get familiar with the HCPV systems and installations and to go a step further and work on their improvement through the applications of advanced technologies. The combination of UoA’s background on materials and IDEA’s advanced applications along with both institutes specialized and sophisticated instrumentation provided a methodology for planning the improvement of the materials and systems efficiency and revealed very interesting possibilities of future work and cooperation.." Theoni Karlessi.
